Forum: GratefulDead Subject: Christmas and a movie

A very Merry and safe Christmas to you all .
For those of you having a bittersweet , a blue or an awful Holiday Time my prayers and heart go out to you. You are not alone.
+ For the Christians out there , 'Look! The Bright Morning Star.'

Holiday Time . Some Family Time . Some Alone Time . Some Movie Time ?
This has not been a good year for movies. No 5 star (A+) movies at all. But, some darned good ones .
All of these are on Netflix Instant.
Kinamand- A Danish film full of color and culture
Intimate Strangers- A French Hitchcockian affair
The Summer Hours- Another French film . Best film of the year (so far).
Winters Bone-(not instant) A showcase for young actress Jennifer Lawrence. She has tremendous talent which is on full display.
The movie I will not recommend is The Road. Watch it next week. It has a powerful half life of at least a week, which could give you some melancholy instead of cheer.

I promise, promise, promise to get my GD post numbers over 50% again. Can you say NY resolution? :-)

I hope all my friends here in the Forum have a good & safe holiday season. The Europe '72 threads are making the season better for me (as I am alone in a new city).

I hope it's OK to pass on a Fandango 2-for-1 movie ticket offer I got just before I read this thread.

& I hope that you can you it in your area.

I am sorry that you are to be alone, Jack. If you desire I hope that you are able to go to a worship service. This is for you.

Thanks, I'll watch the movie tonight or tomorrow; I've forwarded the links back to TN as well. & yes I've got an organized church to attend, Thanks for checking! May our Father bless, keep & teach you(, yours, & all of us) mercifully. I hope & pray our lessons-to-be-learned next year are as near pain-free as possible.

Your brother,

PS just found ~ 8 GB (at 32-64k!) of '74-'82 CBS radio mystery theater here on IA: http://www.archive.org/search.php?query=subject%3A%22CBS+Radio+Mystery+Theater%22. If you like quality (writing, not sound) spoken-word stories, check this out...

Back atcha -Merry Christmas!

Best commercial movies I saw this year - The Kids Are All Right, terrific performances; and the latest Harry Potter was highly entertaining if you like the genre. Any comment - is Inception worth my time and rental ?

Black Swan is very good, but much better if you can avoid seeing any TV commercials for it - and it is definitely being over-hyped. The Fighter is a great little movie, and The King's Speech is fantastic - I've seen that one twice already.
Jim Carrey's I Love You Philip Morris is also great, but unfortunately is not getting any kind of awards love and may in fact have disappeared already. Definitely his best movie since Eternal Sunshine. Ctach it in a few months on cable.
